Wow where did August go?? It’s literally the 20th and I feel like I haven’t done anything this summer. That’s an over exaggeration – I’ve done a boat load. But everything seems to flit away when I try to think of all I did haha.
Big things? I’m going into my final year of my undergrad and I need to figure out my future! I ended up studying a lot this summer. During May I took a psychology statistics course that, while not really the toughest thing in the world, was very dry and boring. I can very much say that I will not be a statistician in my lifetime (or any other lifetimes – that subject just puts me to sleep). For the rest of the summer, I was going all out studying for the MCAT, which is quite a feat. I’m not sure how familiar people are with that exam but let me tell you – not only is it a test of knowledge, its a freaking test of endurance. I sat down and wrote it in around 7 hours, and sitting still for that long is enough to make almost anyone lose it. I started writing at around 730am, and boy was I tired. I really hit a wall of exhaustion around 930 but bounced back. Do I think I did perfectly? HECK NO! But I think I did well enough for me to be proud of, and that’s what I wanted out of this. Do I have a score in mind that I want? Yes. Let’s hope I get it haha.
Other than that what have I been doing? I had a part-time job over the summer with an organization at McGill which turned out to be a lifesaver. Whenever I wanted to waste MCAT studying time I would do something else productive and work for the Union for Gender Empowerment (a super cool org that I’m still a part of and LOVE with all my heart!). And now that I’m back in Montreal I’m going to go back to my lab job (next week) in addition to starting another part-time job. It’s so out there but I’m basically a seamstress! I’m proud to announce that I am working at Mezari, sewing and ironing and basically just doing a bunch of textile work. It’s really lovely, and I love the owner Stephanie so much. I forgot how much sewing worked your back and shoulders though – I consistently have to remind myself to straighten up haha.
I’ve also been reading a lot. I forgot how it felt to have spare time to just sit down and enjoy words rather than having to force them into my brain (scientific papers anyone?). I’m currently deep in the world of Weep and journeying with Lazlo Stranger, Sarai and all those good characters (tbh I love everyone other than Thyon, but I can’t help but feel sad for him – Laini Taylor you genius of characters you!). I have quite a stack I want to get through in August, which I don’t think will be fully accomplished but one can hope. I have a couple other tasks that I need to do, such as write medical school applications and finish a paper that I’m working on, but other than that it’s pretty chill. Oh, there’s just the slight issue of deciding on med school or a masters program, but pish posh. I’ll just apply everywhere haha (any advice internet?).
This year is also going to be really fun I think. I’m on student government for the first time which I’m really looking forward to, and I can’t wait to be more involved in my program. My brother is moving to Ottawa and I’ve decided that I’m going to get frequent flier points for the bus. And finally, I have a couple friendship soulmates that I’m going on great trips with this year (one to New York for labour day, one to an unknown destination in March!). It’s really shaping up to be a great school year, and I can’t wait to see where it takes me!
Let me know what I should do in New York! I’m actively looking for suggestions!
Have a great week ducks!

PS – everyone should watch the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society! It was super sweet, Lily James is everything, and it’s about a book club!
