Thought Pieces

Ships Ahoy!

Hello! Welcome to the alternate universe where I actually keep to my posting schedule! This is really incredible for me haha. Next up is making my instagram schedule more constant. When I was trying to think up what to write about, I think I subconsciously decided to pick one of the most controversial topics out there. Favourite ships *angry mob descends upon my location*. For some reason, this always seems to be the most divisive topic in fandoms. I never got it – just let people ship what they ship and mind your own business! So anyways, here are a couple of my favourite ships, comment and let me know what you think about these and what your favourite ships are.

Juliette and Warner (Shatter Me trilogy)
I don’t know what it was but from the start Warner was always an interesting character for me. And then in Unravel Me and Ignite Me, I completely fell in love with him, and with the Juliette x Warner pairing. I know that it’s so cliche but I love it when the one you never expected coming in the love triangle is the one the heroine falls in love with. And while I’m not excusing his earlier actions in the books, I still think that his character grew an incredible amount and that he really suits Juliette. Things with Adam were kind of toxic (i.m.o, I haven’t read this in a while haha), and she really found someone to trust in Warner. Like, I LOVE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT!

That’s really why I love this – the characters grew together and make each other stronger.

Ronan and Adam (The Raven Cycle)
GOD! There are no words to describe how much I love Pynch. Watching the two of them grow throughout the four books was so spectacular. The scene where Adam is abused by his father and Ronan stands up for him in the first book was such a tell of their connection but because I’m a casual I did not realize until later that they are PERFECT for each other. In The Raven King when they finally start dating, I don’t think I’ve ever been more happy over a relationship. Again, they way they support and love each other is so special and they really get each other in ways other people couldn’t (the Greywaren and the Magician <3). When I reread the series it’ll be interesting to look at the book and find all the clues pointing towards this perfect ship.

Max and Liesel (The Book Thief)
Something that I loved about this ship was the literally years long wait we had to endure (mainly bc Liesel was so much younger) but that final scene where they reunite is what made me feel like they did. I just think that they have such a strong bond of friendship that they couldn’t handle being apart. Zusak has stated that he believes that they don’t end up together, but in my mind they do, and the ending is very open. Even if they didn’t, I still love this relationship so much (as like a brother/sister one) because no matter what they will be there for each other and love each other.

Celaena and Sam (The Assassin’s Blade)
I don’t know if any words can describe how a) sad I was when Sam died and b) how apprehensive I was the read the novellas. I started out with the main novels and didn’t know who Sam was, only that he had died and the entire fandom loves him. So I was like “I know I’m going to get my soul crushed by this guy”. And yup – I friggin bawled my eyes out. Sam was so pure and didn’t deserve anything that happened to him. I will forever be sad that they never got to leave, and in Queen of Shadows when Aelin finally goes to his grave and talks to him and tells him everything, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more moving and loving gesture. They bond between the two of them was obviously so real, and SJM just had to make us agonize over the two of them didn’t she. Still, much love for Sam and Celaena.

Side note – anyone know any good WLW novels out there? I’m severely lacking in that category, please help me find more LGBTQ novels!

Anyways, that’s all for today ducks – I’ll talk to you on Monday!
